General Description

Magnus is an early-mid season cultivar of large fruit for hand harvesting. A strong growing plant with good survival.

Hydrogen cyanamide: performs well with or without hydrogen cyanamide

Machine Harvestability: not recommended; probably will not perform well using current machine harvesting technology.

o North-central FL (2018-2021): 3.95 – 11.0 lbs/plant, average 8.01 lbs/plant

Known insect damage susceptibility: none observed to date

Fruit quality data:

o Fruit firmness: Average 211 g/mm, 253 g/mm (21 days), 185 g/mm (49 days). A little higher than Emerald.

o Berry Weight: 2.4 – 2.9 grams, average 2.7 grams, a little higher than Emerald

o Berry Diameter: 16.7 – 19.8 mm, average 18.5 mm, similar to Emerald

o Brix: average 9.8 – 11.5, average 10.7, lower than Emerald, similar to Endura and Patrecia

o Brix/Acid Ratio: 11.6 – 68.4, average 36.7, higher than Emerald

o Fruit scar: normal (small and dry), similar to Emerald

o Wax/bloom: high

o Fruit defects: none observed

o Flavor Score: 28.8 – reference Emerald (19.9), Kestrel (29.0)

o Aroma: none

Other information: High yield potential with early bloom and early production of large fruit for hand harvest. Very consistent across years. May require freeze protection in January.
